OnTime Networks’ new fully rugged military grade CM/CR-6228 Multi-Function COTS all-in-one system combines the capabilities of a 28 Port Gb/10Gb Ethernet Switch, NIAP Certified Router, GPS Time Server and Computer in one compact design. The unit not only features the latest hardware and software in a SWaP optimized packaging, but also unheard of modularity (mix and match functionality), which is highly attractive to address Department of Defense (DoD) program needs. The new CM/CR-6228 Series provides four (4) different capabilities in one SWaP-optimized Multi-Function COTS all-in-one platform:


Fully Rugged Military: -40°C to +71°C Operating Range, MIL-STD 810G, 461F, 704 and 1275D/E, Altitude 85,000 ft, up to 100ms Holdup, 28VDC with dual power input


Network Ethernet switch: Layer 2/3 switch with up to 28 ports, including up to 4x 10GbE copper or fiber ports

The CM/CR-6228 Multi-Function COTS all-in-one system combines the functionality of a fully rugged managed 28 Port Gb/10Gb Ethernet Switch, NIAP Certified Router, GPS Time Server and Computer in one compact design, and is specifically designed to operate reliably in the harsh climatically and noisy electrical demanding environments (e.g. high altitude, extreme shock, & vibration, wide temperatures, humidity, dust & water exposure, noisy EMI, dirty power) of military applications.

The CM/CR-6228 is an advanced and highly engineered Networking and Compute device that addresses complexity, enable modularity and provides growth, while delivering optimal performance for Space, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C) constrained military applications onboard vehicles and aircraft platforms. The unit complies to the environmental requirements of MIL-STD-810, EMI/EMC requirements of MIL-STD-461 or IEC-55032/61000 and MIL-STD-1275 (DC variant).

This fully managed, Layer 2/3 Gigabit router/switch provides a powerful set of networking features, including support for IPv4 multicast traffic filtering according to static filters or IGMP snooping, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), port control (speed / mode / statistics, flow control), Quality of Service (QoS) traffic prioritization, Link Aggregation (802.3ad), SNMP v1/v2/v3 management, secure authentication (802.1X, ACLs, Web/CLI), port mirroring and redundancy based on RSTP/MSTP or High availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR).

The router implementation is based on a separate router board with an Intel Atom processor and is capable of routing speeds up to 800Mbps wire speed. The router board has spare capacity on memory, flash and CPU for installing and running third party software on the same board while ensuring separation from the router. A wide range of router protocols are supported including multicast routing.

The CM/CR-6228 can act as an accurate PTP Grand Master Clock (GMC) synchronized to its embedded GNSS receiver or external time sources, such as external GNSS receiver (NMEA/PPS) or IRIG-B DC. Further, its Transparent Clock/Slave Clock (TC/SC) functionality allows time synchronization output capabilities at the edge of the network, for example a PPS or IRIG-B (AM or DC). The unit also contains a standard NTP server.

HSR is a network protocol for Ethernet that provides seamless failover against failure of a network component. HSR nodes have two gigabit ports and act as a switch (bridge), which allows arranging them into a ring structure, without dedicated switches. HSR is suited for applications that request high availability and no switchover time, where the recovery time of commonly used protocols such as the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) is too long.
